Thanksgiving in Sendai

Surprising as it may seem, I was not really deprived of Thanksgiving as some of you may imagine -- in fact, I think that I may have gotten more Thanksgiving than most Americans. On the actual holiday, Debi and I went out for karaoke and pizza (I know, not very traditional).

Then on the Saturday after the holiday, we went to an American Thanksgiving Dinner/Cooking class at the Sendai Evangelical Christian Church -- it was Thanksgiving Dinner with all the trimmings (turkey, sweet potato pie, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, etc.).

AND we also got to go to a Thanksgiving potluck at the Sendai English Fellowship, to which I brought a very surprising sweet potato pie. When I bought the sweet potatoes I did not realize they were a special kind of sweet potato from Okinawa, and when I began to peel them I realized they were purple!! So my sweet potatoes looked a little cartoon-ish, because they were
drastically purple against the white marshmallows on top.
